VILLA MARIA LOCATION:
Villa Maria is a large, spacious villa, family owned and privately located in the most traditional Cypriot village that one will find anywhere on the island, providing an ideal, authentic holiday experience for everybody, with plenty of variety.
The property is situated just 600 metres (a few mins walk) from Kathikas, which is a traditional Village, located in between Paphos, Polis and Latchi. It is a perfect location to enjoy and relax for your holiday.
In the centre of the village, you will find the square where the Folk Museum and Panagia Evangelistria Church are.
The village has six Restaurant/Tavernas, all offering different cuisines.
You will find in the centre of the village Kathikas Square Café Bar, showing Sports, with Internet access, Cakes, Snacks, Waffles, Draught Beers and other drinks available.
A mini-market is located in the village which has the essential items you may need. For a big selection of shopping, the village of Peyia is located only 9km away. Here you will find a local Bakery, Pharmacy, Fish Market and Butchers. Local Banks are open Mon-Fri Morning only, but there is also cash point machine.
Kathikas is famous for its vineyards. Located here are 2 local wineries, Sterna Winery and Vasilikon, which take visitors for wine tasting, both within walking distance of the Villa.
The village is surrounded by vines and is renowned for the quality of its grapes. Many of the vines have been in the same family for generations. Our very famous wineries open their doors to visitors, so you can enjoy the winemakers craft.
The village is also home to a donkey sanctuary, a tourist information centre and has two traditional Churches.
Situated around the outskirts of the village are several trails for sightseeing and walking.
Kathikas enjoys a good climate in summer with very little humidity. If you’re a bit of an amateur anthropologist, then Kathikas is an ideal location in which to observe the traditional Cypriot way of life and to live it yourself.
The central location of Kathikas makes it an ideal base from which to explore such areas as Polis and Latchi, the Baths of Aphrodite, the Adonis Baths, the Akamas Peninsula, the Tomb of the Kings, the famous "Shipwreck" and the Turtle Hatchery at Lara Bay, to mention but a few.
Paphos itself (20km) consists of two towns, each with its very own character. Ktima on the cliff (Upper Paphos) and Kato Paphos by the sea (Lower Paphos). One is virtually unchanged over the centuries and thoroughly Cypriot, while the other has expanded over the last decade from a sleepy fishing village and harbour, into a vibrant cosmopolitan resort which is expanding and improving each year.
In Kato, Paphos, (in the archaeological park), you will find many fine mosaics and buildings from Greek and Roman periods, plus the Harbour Castle.
Close by, is the church of St Paul’s Pillar, where the pillar St Paul was tied to can be found. Further down this road are the Tombs of the Kings and Christian Catacombs.
An excellent highway runs to all corners of Cyprus but the old coast road is the most scenic route.
A drive along here past various ancient sites such as Aphrodite’s Birthplace and Temple, towards Limassol, taking in Curium, is delightful and is littered with the most beautiful views.
There are three beautiful golf courses in the area, with individual style, all are within a thirty minute drive.
Heading east, you can find the route to Cedar Valley and the Troodos Mountains. The route is peppered with many other small but charming villages along the way.
You are only a short drive - with spectacular views to see as you travel down the mountainside - from Peyia and the Coral Bay resort with all its cafes, bars, restaurants and other entertainment as well as one of the best beaches in Cyprus.
